Saturday in the Kitchen

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

So in an effort to be entertained, and to keep what little social skills I have in some sort of shape, I went over to my friend Melvin’s this Saturday. We spent some time chatting and looking at funny stuff on the internet. After a bit Melvin mentioned that she was in the mood for some pastry. MMMMmmmmm pastry. Now gentle reader, I like to cook. I especially like to cook for other people and I don’t get much of a chance to do any cooking being that I am currently a grad school widower. So while Melvin was looking for a scone recipe I mentioned that I could bake a pie. Knowing Melvin is a big fan of pumpkin pie I mentioned that I could make a Chess pie, which is a sort of spiced custard pie [or at least the way I make it, there are numerous variations]. Of course my recipe, given to me by my Grandmother, was at home, so we tried one off the internet which I modified as I went along. Melvin, currently in mental detox coming off of a bad corporate job, is starting to remember the joy of cooking too, and watched as I went about making crust and filling. There is something mighty scary about having Melvin’s full attention, but she seems to have enjoyed herself. And about 40 minutes later we both enjoyed the pie. We then sat back and had a Dead Like Me viewing marathon. I love that show.

In the next few days I hope to get the other pages up and running and I will post some pie recipes on there. I might even try and make a sugar cream pie soon…Mmmmmmmm.

OK the question for this week:

What is one talent or ability [within the human norm] you wish you possessed?

I wish I had any sort of musical ability.

Must see, too funny

Guilty Pleasure

Monday, September 24th, 2007

OK so I admit it, last year I got sucked into the show Heroes along with a whole lot of other people. It is fairly entertaining, but after each episode I just can’t help but think of bitchy little problems I had with it. Like all of last year, every time any other character is talking about the character of Peter, they call him Peter Patrelli [sp?]. Other characters are referred to by their first names, but not Peter [except occasionally by his mother if I remember correctly]. I couldn’t help but wonder if it was meant as a means to make the whole show seem more like a comic book? Marvel constantly refers to Spiderman as Peter Parker, was this some subliminal means by Heroes to make us feel that Peter was more heroic than he was portrayed? Because really he was such a whiner for most of the 1st season!

Not much to see here yet is there?  Don’t bother with the other links on the top because I haven’t gotten the pages made as of yet.  A few more days and everything should be on track!
