Saturday in the Kitchen
Sunday, September 30th, 2007So in an effort to be entertained, and to keep what little social skills I have in some sort of shape, I went over to my friend Melvin’s this Saturday. We spent some time chatting and looking at funny stuff on the internet. After a bit Melvin mentioned that she was in the mood for some pastry. MMMMmmmmm pastry. Now gentle reader, I like to cook. I especially like to cook for other people and I don’t get much of a chance to do any cooking being that I am currently a grad school widower. So while Melvin was looking for a scone recipe I mentioned that I could bake a pie. Knowing Melvin is a big fan of pumpkin pie I mentioned that I could make a Chess pie, which is a sort of spiced custard pie [or at least the way I make it, there are numerous variations]. Of course my recipe, given to me by my Grandmother, was at home, so we tried one off the internet which I modified as I went along. Melvin, currently in mental detox coming off of a bad corporate job, is starting to remember the joy of cooking too, and watched as I went about making crust and filling. There is something mighty scary about having Melvin’s full attention, but she seems to have enjoyed herself. And about 40 minutes later we both enjoyed the pie. We then sat back and had a Dead Like Me viewing marathon. I love that show.
In the next few days I hope to get the other pages up and running and I will post some pie recipes on there. I might even try and make a sugar cream pie soon…Mmmmmmmm.
