Out of touch

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

gecko headSo I had mentioned that earlier this week was busy.  Well the truth is I had to go into work on an overnight shift and it kicked my ass.  I used to work overnights for years with no trouble.  Now one overnight and I am out of it for a few days.  I am old.  Like today, after work I was home for two hours and then BAM I was asleep.

So now I am up after my four hour “nap” and I am over thinking my life.  Like how in the heck am I going to lose the weight I want to lose?  Why do I have such a need to be liked by everyone, paired with a personality that doesn’t make that an easy task?  Why do I feel like my friends are so much more intelligent than me?  Why do I always seem to get stupid when I talk to my folks, or worse yet be so unfocused as to appear to be on drugs?  I wonder what sort of child my folks really wanted and if I am even close?  This is why people have pets, unconditional love without second guessing.  I love my cats and I miss my dog.

Comedy weekend

Tropical fishOK so it is Wednesday and I am finally posting about the last weekend, but it has been a weird week so far [I'll tell you later].  Anyway, after running around Saturday morning and going to the Craftravaganza, Brain and I gathered over at Mary’s place to await the rest of our group for our night out seeing the Kids in the Hall live show.  So after an hour or so of Mary and Brian discussing language and stuff, Shari and Julie showed up and we all piled into the Stratus for downtown.  We met Mel and Dave for drinks and appetizers at Manhattans.  I loved the restaurant, with seven of us to be seated they placed us in our own room [maybe they intuited that any group containing Mel, Brian and Mary would need to be seated in a private area]!  And I had a few drinks, the Rockstar, even came with Pop Rocks!  For my own future reference the Rockstar is composed of “Cherry Vodka and ginger beer, topped with champagne, and garnished with a starfruit and a little essence of rock ‘n’ roll” [the pop rocks].  I also had a Bellini and a “Strawbellini.”  Good times.  I think I may be a bit of a “girl drink drunk.”

The show itself was great, but I don’t know what I did to piss off Ticketmaster enough that it gave me seats behind a really nasty drunk hetero couple that couldn’t keep their hands off each other or their loud mouths shut.

Brain and I went to Craftstravaganza at the fairgrounds in St. Paul this last weekend.  I sort of went a little crazy and bought a couple of items.  But they were really neat items and I wanted to link to the creators’ websites.  I’ll have pics up as soon as I can find where my camera is hiding.  Brain even bought a few items.

Question for today

What would you like a T-shirt to say?

I would make one that said “Yes, pragmatism is all I have to offer!”

From Ferris Bueller’s Day Off:

Ferris: “Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism’s in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself.”

Mary, the naughty librarian

child writingMary has turned me on to an interesting site. Library thing, is a site that allows you to keep track of your personal library, as well as some other features I am still discovering. If you think this sounds fun to a guy who reads a book in a couple days on average, you’re right! Check it out.  You can also make a neat widget for your blog, see mine [an author cloud] on the right [still a work in progress].

Just another weekend.

sea cucumberBrian and I raced down to Rochester Friday night. Our Realtor had set up an open house for this Saturday and we needed to clean up the patio area now that the snow had finally melted. It seems that even with the temperatures in the high 60s the back yard is so shady that we still had snow as of the beginning of the week. So after two hours of driving, and a half an hour of clean-up, we went over to visit Mel and Dave. It was good to see them and just spend time chatting. Dave even lent me some books to read.

Saturday Brain and I went out to lunch with his Brother and Sister-in-law at Elsies. They were in town from Fargo for a pair of family birthdays. We had a good time catching up. Then in the evening we went over to my folks. Mom made Lasagna, garlic bread and a Harvey Wallbanger cake for my birthday dinner. Afterward we played some Pinochle. Thursday Mom goes in for her surgery so Brian and I will be taking turns going over to the house to be with Mercury while Mom and Dad are gone. I miss having my little dog around all the time, he is such a good little snuggler. We then came home to watch the latest episode of Doctor Who. More info follows, but since some people may not appreciate spoilers I will continue after the more tag.

Am I relevant?

lizard skinI am having a crisis of sorts today. Have you ever had the feeling that your life is without purpose? I have spent most of the day today reading a very interesting blog, and feeling that my life has been just so, well, mundane. I can’t think of a single thing that I have accomplished that really matters in the big scheme of things. Maybe the best is yet to come, but who can tell? Maybe I do have a novel somewhere deep in my mind just waiting to get out. Maybe I need to actually work on that.

I think this is one of the reasons I wish Brain and I could have a child of our own. I think that raising a child of our own could be the best thing that Brian and I could ever do. Finding Brian was the best thing that has happened in my life so far, and I think our child would be a wonderful person.
